John Stezaker

Popped into the Whitechapel Gallery yesterday to take a closer look at the John Stezaker exhibition and spent an interesting hour or two studying his various collage techniques and styles.  I’m definitely no expert but his output is most definitely defined by some very distinct phases.

My favourites are without question his silhouette phase represented here by Voyeur  from 1979 and his most recent works encompassing the Love series and Blind.

Far less appealing to me are the overly simplistic photo fragment and missing pieces (my descriptions) phases…  no doubt the real experts and critics will have their own views!
